Feature suggestion: Quick Glossary

Importing/exporting termbases have been extremely complicated processes in Trados. A simpler terminology system can supplement full-fledged termbases.

Consider this scenario. For a project with poor terminology, a translator needs to add new terms to a glossary. [Quick Add New Terms] can be handy, but it would add terms to your main termbase. These new, unauthorized terms must be kept separate from the main termbase. They will be eventually authorized and integrated to the main termbase.

In this case, it would be useful to have a simpler access for simple glossaries. This "scratchpad termbase" can read and write to a tabular format. For smaller projects, this mechanism can greatly encourage translators to create and use glossaries.

    A great idea indeed... one I've supported for many years!  So an update on where we are today is probably useful:

    1. We have the Glossary Converter and the Glossary Plugin which go a long way towards achieving this and making lives easier.
    2. We are introducing a new API early next year which will allow a developer to create their own version of MultiTerm that hooks into Studio in the same ay MultiTerm does.  This is already something many developers with their own terminology collections in different types of software have been waiting for so I expect to see some fun things coming out of this.  More importantly it would be possible to create a plugin that just looks up a simple excel glossary and uses it as a termbase... no other work required.  Now that would be simple ;-)

    So two solutions, one available today and already the most popular application we have on the OpenExchange, and the other due in a few months I hope.
