two different entries for 1 source in TM

Hi there,
is there a possibility to store two different translation for one word in the TM. I have lots of tables and there is just one word (in German) that must be translated differently according to the subject matter into English. I therefore need two entries for the same source word in the TM.

I work with Studio 2022

Thanks in advance,
Christiane

  • Hello Christiane,

Yes, you can definitely store multiple translations for the same source word in your Translation Memory (TM). Trados Studio 2022 allows you to do this. Here's how:

Step 1: Open your project in Trados Studio 2022.

Step 2: Navigate to the segment where you want to add a new translation.

Step 3: Translate the segment as you wish. Remember, this can be different from the existing translation in the TM.

Step 4: Confirm the segment. This will store the new translation in the TM.

Step 5: Repeat the process for other segments where you want to add different translations for the same source word.

Now, whenever you come across the same source word, Trados Studio 2022 will show you all the different translations stored in the TM. You can then choose the one that fits best according to the context.

Remember, the TM is a dynamic tool that learns from your translations. The more you work with it, the more it will adapt to your translation style and preferences.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
