Your UI is not optimal as the warning is telling you about the message window.
Yet you cant access it. See mine in comparison

Please go to "View" tab then "Reset Windows Layout"

Do you mean poor segment formatting?

You cant adjust that now - but in future you can. 
For the most part it would be your TM segmentation settings or in some circumstances the file type processing settings.

Your screen shot from what I can tell has very nice segments.
Meaning how the content has been split into the segments that would no doubt benefit you while you translate them.

If you think that you have poor formatting then you need to amend your TM settings under Language Resources

I only mentioned poor formatting because I was trying to understand what you meant by
