Unfortunately, there is no shortcut key enabled. So that does not seem to be the cause.

Sounds like an unusual and tricky problem.  I think that given the F2 key isn't assigned within the "Keyboard Shortcuts" settings in Trados Studio or the Studio start up exe, this behaviour might be stemming from a system-level shortcut or another program's configuration that's conflicting with Trados Studio.

Maybe check some of these things:

1. Check System-Level Shortcuts:  Ensure there aren't any system-level keyboard shortcuts (set through your operating system) that are assigned to F2 and might be causing this behaviour (ease of access, keyboard settings, control panel for example).  This is especially relevant if you're using any custom keyboard shortcut tools or have modified your system's default keyboard settings.

2. Background Applications:  Sometimes, other applications running in the background can interfere with keyboard shortcuts.  Check if any application that you have installed could be using the F2 key as a shortcut to perform an action, like opening a new instance of a certain program.

3. Update Trados Studio:  Ensure that your Trados Studio is updated to the latest version.

4. Reset Trados Studio Settings:  If no external conflict is found, try resetting the settings of Trados Studio to their default state.  This can sometimes resolve unexplained behaviour.  However, be aware that this will erase any custom settings or preferences you have set up.

   To do this just close Trados Studio and then rename this folder:

   c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio17\

   to c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio17_old\

   If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

   www.howtogeek.com/.../

   Then restart Trados Studio and see if that helped.

You were right with your first assumption. I must have assigned the F2 key to Trados Studio when I set up my new keyboard, which came with a utility to assign custom keys. So I actually brought this on myself...  :-/

I did not remember doing this and had not even thought about the keyboard being the culprit until you brought it up. So thank you very much!

Excellent... a lucky guess!  Glad you found it.

Ha Julia Brinkkötter  that was my initial gut feeling also. I was hoping you would say yes there is a short cut assigned to the exe and therefore giving me even more reason to imply you were using some degree of short cut support - outside of Studio.
