If you had the professional version of Studio you could use Perfect Match to get everything on a par... but if not the solution is to simply add your TM to the project you have now created and pre-translate the file with everything you have done so far.  The difference between Perfect Match and a Pre-translate is that Perfect Match will keep all the match values and statuses etc. of the file you translated before... just like the update file process you now know how to use.  A pre-translate will make everything a CM or 100% match because you have got the correct translation already in your TM.  But both methods will put the content you translated before into the new file.

The pseudo-translate feature, as I mentioned in the video, is there to quickly populate the target with content that looks like the language you're translating into, contains the sort of diacritics you might use, and helps to make sure that the target file will fit the layout it's intended for, or includes everything you expect.  This is normally done before translation if you need to do DTP work at the same time as the translators translate.  I only used it in the video because it was a quick way to put something in the target that wasn't the source... now I wish I hadn't!

So you don't need to use pseudo-translate yourself.  Once you've created your project just add your TM (the one you used before) to your new project and then use the batch task to pre-translate the file(s) in your project.

Dear Paul  , today I have tried to update the file. I followed your video really step by step but the result is really a disaster! My translation disappeared! I now see mainly Italian in the position of the "source" document (which was in French!). Only from a certain poin it starts French again! I really can't understand what happened...Thanks God I had saved the target file transalted until that moment! Anyway, the target file I saved is a word file and I still had to revise the translation, so I still wanted to have it on Trados...

I hope you can help me. I attach a picture (I cancelled the personal data shown in the translation)... Thanks

Why don't you create a small sample file full of content that isn't important.  Translate it.  Then try to update it.  And record what you're doing so we can see it.
