Applying the most recent match in the TM?

Hello, the client has made changes to the file to be translated several times. Now, I have the final file to be translated and would like to use the TM matches from the most recent translation in the TM. I see that sometimes the editor uses aleady the most recent translation in the TM, but unfortunately not always. In the following screenshot, the third translation (CM) is the most recent one, however the first (old) one was applied and confirmed by the editor as a 100% match. Is there anyway that can gurantee me that the most recent translations are definitely used in all segments?

In addition, I see segments that I translated already, however their matches don't appear at all in the editor. How can I fix this issue?

I appreciate your support and thank you in advance

  • Hello,

It seems like you're experiencing an issue where the most recent translations in your Translation Memory (TM) are not always being applied in Trados Studio. This can happen due to a variety of reasons, but there are a few steps you can take to ensure that the most recent translations are used:

Step 1: Update your TM: Make sure your TM is up-to-date with the most recent translations. You can do this by running a Batch Task -> Pre-translate, as mentioned in the context. This will ensure that your TM is updated with the latest translation units.

Step 2: Set TM Lookup Settings: In Trados Studio, you can set your TM lookup settings to prioritize the most recent translations. Go to Project Settings -> Language Pairs -> All Language Pairs -> Translation Memory and Automated Translation. Here, under the 'Lookup' tab, you can set 'Newest segment first' in the 'Sort results by' dropdown. This will ensure that the most recent translations are prioritized.

Step 3: Confirm and Update Segments: When you confirm a segment in the Editor, it gets updated in the TM. Make sure you're confirming your segments as you translate, so that they get stored in the TM for future use.

As for the issue of some translated segments not appearing in the Editor, this could be due to a few reasons. It could be that these segments are not in the TM, or that they're not being recognized as matches due to differences in formatting, tags, or other factors. Make sure that these segments are properly stored in the TM, and that there are no discrepancies that could be preventing them from being recognized as matches.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Best regards,

  • Hello, I use Trados Studio 2021 and I can't find in step 2 the following:
Here, under the 'Lookup' tab, you can set 'Newest segment first' in the 'Sort results by' dropdown. This will ensure that the most recent translations are prioritized.
Where can I find this part in Trados Studio 2021?

This is all what I have, see screenshot. I have not 'Sort results by' dropdown!

Screenshot of Trados Studio 2021 showing the Translation Memory and AutoSuggest section with a selected TM but no 'Sort results by' dropdown visible.

Regarding my 2nd question "In addition, I see segments that I translated already, however their matches don't appear at all in the editor. How can I fix this issue?", the segments are correctly saved in the TM and I can find them, when I do a condordance search! So I have no clue, why they don't appear as a match?

I am stuck and would really appreciate your help. Thank you

You can find the option to Show must recent translations directly under the TM Search options as shown in my screen print

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing the Translation Memory and Auto-Search options with 'Show most recent translations first' checkbox highlighted.

Does this at least answer part of your questions?
