Translation of comments - no results in the generated translations

Dear forum members,

I have faced the follwoing situation with the translation of comments.

I have a DOCX document with comments for translation. I know that the Studio offers two options for working with comments, but none of them helps.

For example, if I opend the document without ticking the "Extract comments for translation" option, I see all comments retained as comments, so I cannot translate them as source text and add the translation into my TM. And if there are five "please see above" comments I have to add the translation into the target segments mannually each time. I understand that comments cannot appear automatically  in the target text, but it's really sad that the tranlation of comments cannot be confirmed and added into the TM for future use.

If I choose the "Extract comments for translation" option,  I have all comments extracted into the source segments and can translated and confirm then and enjoy all the benefits of auto-propagation, etc. However, after finalising the translation, I see no translation of the extracted comments in the generated translation document. So I have them in my TM but have no idea how to make them appear in the translated document.

If you have any ideas on how to resolve this issue, please help

Best regards,

Tanya

  • I think the problem is that the Studio doesn't seem to understand where to add a comment in the target text, if the comment in the source text is to a word or phase but not the whole sentence. When for test purposes, I add a comment to a heading or a sentence, the generated transtion file has all such comments in plcae. But if comments relate only to certain words in a source sentence, the translation doc is generated without comments at all.... Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that there is no solution to this issue so far, and unless source language comments are to headings or whole sentences, you have to add all comments in the target text manually.
