Trados Sudio supports dozens of machine translation engines, and if you want state of the art you probably don't want the out of the box AdaptiveMT anyway since this is only statistical MT.  Use one of the many supported Neural MT providers instead.

Nota bene that these are apps that connect Studio to a service, which is usually paid, so you might need an account with the MT service(s) of your choice.

Thanks, but only being able to make the sole feature I bought the software for work by subscribing to another paid service is far from ideal, as Studio was already very expensive. Had I known I'd need to use a paid service to use it, I'd never have bought it. I'm still hoping for a refund

You might have mistaken a CAT tool for an MT subscription... Two totally different things. Having said this, the MT plugins and the CAT tool are very powerful in combination.

Well, I really wanted to use the MT offered in Studio 2019, which looked very good combined with the other features of the software, and not a subscription to an MT service, especially since, yes, it's basic, but I wouldn't have needed to upload the text anywhere. It just doesn't work at all with Japanese to German, only Japanese to English, wich I did not know. This combination is simply not supported. I still think the AdaptiveMT is a great feature if one of the language combinations you work with is English. For me, this is, unfortunately, not the case.
