I found them!  They're at the extreme right in the HOME tab ruler. I need to include them up on the top left hand function options.  If anyone can tell me how, I will be much obliged.  Also......why is Merge Segments not activated?  It's colorless, i.e. not usable.  

In the top left corner you have a small down arrow to customize the Quick Access bar, i.e. those icons in the top left corner.

PS.: Another option is to press the shortcut CTRL+F to bring the Find and Replace dialog box up.

I have the other question which is why are the merge and split segment icons deactivated?  I mean they are not dark, they are pale -- how can I activate these icons?
