It has never (ever) worked properly and is just not worth the trouble and frustration. It needs to be rewritten from scratch.

Thanks for your comment, Michael. I've never had problems with termbases/MultiTerm before, so this comes as something of a surprise.

Can you tell me a bit more about the option you use? Does it work in conjunction with Studio? If not, I might as well just check terms by moving from Studio to MultiTerm (every segment) - even though that defeats the point of having a built-in term recognition app.

Yes, it works together with Studio. That is, it's an SDL App. it uses its own termbase format (which is much more efficient than Studio's own, legacy format), but if I remember correctly you can also work directly with Studio termbases (and Excel files). However, it's best to use the programs on format. It is also very easy (and extremely fast) to import data from other termbases.

And because it is so random, whether it will work not on any given day, it is extremely frustrating to use since you never really know whether something is already in your termbase or not.

I should mention that I do generally work with extremely large TBs, and so this might have something to do with the fact that I have never had much luck with. However, if memory serves have also tested smaller TBs in the past, with no luck either.

In any case, if you have any more questions just ask and I can answer them here or make another quick video!

Just one question: Do you know if you can add notes to terms? For instance, if one particular synonym applies to one context (e.g. law) and another applies in a different context (e.g. engineering).

Yes, you can add notes. However, you need to use one of the hard-coded categories. The following are available:

I just downloaded and then clicked on the plugin file, but nothing happens: No Rys in Studio. What am I doing wrong? Should I somehow install it from within Studio?

Hmm, you need to download the RyS_Termbase_Presentation.sdlplugin file, double-click it to install it (with Studio closed). This should bring up a dialogue to install it.

You can then check it was installed by launching the program: ‘SDL Plugin Management’ (search for it via Start menu)

Also make sure it isn't blocked, as files often are when downloaded from the internet on Win10. Right-click on file, select Properties, and look at the bottom to check if it needs to be ‘Unblocked’.

Then, in Studio, it ought to be in the View menu.

As you can see, it didn't install. Any idea?

When you double-click on the file, what happens? Does a dialogue pop up?

No dialog. I checked the properties, clicked on "Unblock", then "Apply", then OK. Double-clicked on plugin. Nothing. If I open properties anew, it's blocked again. I've even tried moving it from the temp folder to Downloads. Same thing. Something clearly doesn'T like it. Maybe my antivirus or anti-malware. I'll check them now.

Incidentally, all these categories can be changed, which is cool. For example, don't need the ‘Origin’ category, just change it to ‘Notes’! This can be done when opening/setting up a termbase at the beginning of a project (by clicking on any of them in the ‘Termbase Settings’ dialogue).
