Numbers like "1a" or "2b" not identified as placeables in SDL Studio 2019

Question

I regularly translate legal acts, regulations, soft law instruments and contracts and find that I frequently have problems with items like "1a" in say "Article 1a " or "2b" as in "Article 7 para. 2b " not identifying as placeables. How can I set this up? 
 
 Similiarly the autocorrect likes to then capitalise them, which I would like to disable. 
 ie. 1a >>> 1A and 2b >>> 2B. 
 How do I go about this.

In this situation it makes sense to segment the content so that these numbers are placed on separate segments altogether. Then you can copy source to target, set as confirmed and lock them, then filter on unlocked. This way you don't need to wporry about them at all.

A possible suggestion for the first part of your question: do you have "recognise alphanumeric strings" checked in your translation memory settings?
