Opening wsxz package in Studio 2014: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have tried repeatedly to open, in Studio 2014, a wsxz package sent to me by a customer. The Open Package wizard reaches the "Preparing Package for Import" screen, and then stops with the error message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". I have tried the following workarounds:

1) Saving the wsxz package file to a different folder.

2) Resetting the Window layout.

3) Deleting the settings files and restarting Studio 2014.

4) Running a repair installation of Studio 2014.

5) Checking for updates in Studio 2014 (it is up to date).

6) Asking the project manager to re-send the file, and trying again with the re-sent version.

None of these solutions has worked, and with the deadline approaching I need to find a way of starting the translation. The text of the error message is as follows:

    Hello ,

    We would need to know in which version of WorldServer the package was created in as I believe this could be down to Studio 2014 simply not being able to support the (newer) package version.
    Maybe you could download the Studio 2019 trial and see if you can handle the package without problem.

    Dear Steven,

    Many thanks indeed for your very quick response. I cannot ascertain from the file properties which version of WorldServer the package was created in, and I do not have enough time to ask my customer to check with the end customer before the deadline.
    I have downloaded and installed the Studio 2019 trial and can now open the package file. However, this is only a temporary solution, because the trial will end in 30 days' time, so it will work for this project but presumably not after that time. Could you please give me some advice on these points?

    1) What can I do to resolve this specific problem in the 2014 version, given that I have a perpetual licence and I have had no problems up to now?
    2) Having installed the trial version of Studio 2019 as a temporary solution for this problem, could you please clarify why I cannot now access the 2014 version? If I try to open Studio 2014, I see an error message saying "An error occurred while retrieving your license".

    I would be very grateful for your advice on these new problems, even though the first problem has been solved!

    This is probably as I expected and simply your client is running a newer version (upgraded) of WorldServer which Studio 2014 cannot handle. But again-

    unless we know the exact version your client is running we simply cannot give a 100% clear answer.

    I don't know if you are already aware, but support for Studio 2014 version has already been retired and the ability to upgrade will cease in March 2019, so it is maybe worth considering upgrading to avoid inevitable version/compatibility issues.

    I have taken a look at your account, and see that you have deactivated your license, so simply log in copy your activation code, Start Studio 2014 and then paste the activation code when prompted to do so.
