Hi,

I know this is not really helpful, but in my own dealings with the AI plugin I found that this is just the way it is, especially with taggy documents and the Batch Task Pre-Translate with AI. What they show in the webinars all the time is the ideal situation, but that's far from the norm. More often than not AI just doesn't do what it's supposed to do.

You could try upgrading to Trados Studio 2024 as it seems to work a bit better there, but it really is far from perfect.

Thanks for sharing your experience, that's really helpful to know (even if it's not the answer I want!). Disappointing to hear that's the best we can expect, especially with tags as they are the tricky part. While there are general limitations with using genAI, other translation platforms can provide a consistent experience and fill in a full AI pre-translation.

Have you had any better luck with any other Trados plugins that connect to OpenAI or other providers?

Unfortunately, no. We tried it with the Azure LLM, but had the same problems there.

For the lookup, you could try opening the AI Companion in your editor and manually look up the segments that it didn't translate in pre-translation. It should normally provide you with a translation there ...

Ah that is annoying. We never had this problem with directly accessed MT providers like DeepL. 

I did try filling in the missing segments manually by clicking into the segment (I think that's what you mean?). That has worked before but for some segments I still get an error that no lookup is performed, so I have no way to get a pre-translation for those segments. Is that what you experience too or do you at least get an offer of a translation manually when going through it in the editor?

I did have this problem with DeepL, too, but far less frequently.

No, I didn't mean this kind of look-up. If you navigate to the View ribbon in your Trados Studio, you should be able to add the AI Companion to your editor view. There should then be some kind of Refresh icon and a drop-down list with prompts, which you can use to manually look up the missing segments.

Unfortunately, I can't show it to you because I currently don't have an AI subscription, but this is the description from the plugin documentation:

It was more or less reliable. Sometimes you have to switch between prompts to make it show you something, but in the end you always got something. Hope that helps in the meantime! :)

Been digging into the documentation further and I do have AI Companion, which seems to be pretty good about filing in the blanks with a few attempts. Thanks for alerting me to it! Putting this here in case I make people think it is not available as part of AI Professional in 2022 - it is!
