Error message: "Higher version" of Multiterm already installed

Hi,

I have unistalled Multiterm 17.2.3. because the terminology verification didn't work in Trados Studio 17.2.9 (see https://community.rws.com/product-groups/trados-portfolio/trados-studio/f/studio/51825/term-recognition-does-not-work-in-certain-termbases-after-latest-update)

When I try to install Multiterm 17.2.2. I get the following message: Setup did not complete. The error is: Setup has detected a higher version of this product already installed.

Error message from MultiTerm 2022 SR2 setup stating 'Setup did not complete. The error is: Setup has detected a higher version of this product already installed. If you still wish to install this version, you must remove the other version first.' with an OK button.

Of course before reinstalling, I followed these instructions: community.rws.com/.../03-6-uninstalling-trados-studio-multiterm-from-your-system

and restarted my PC.

Please provide assistance as we need to use Multiterm.

Thank you very much in advance,

kind regards

Beatrice - interbrian srl

    Hi Beatrice,

Is this specific to just one termbase and/or project/file, or is it happening generally? Has it happened only since you started work this session?

If so did you try restarting Studio?

Have you made sure that both Studio and MultiTerm are the latest versions (open each program individually and on the Help ribbon, click 'Check for Updates'?

It is necessary to have the correct versions of each for each.

Have you tried removing the termbase from the project and re-adding it?

Have you tried running a Windows Repair on both Studio and Multiterm? This will repair software connections by checking for and replacing anything that is missing from the setup, for example if a Windows update has triggered changes in your setup.

    Here is how:

    1. Close all RWS applications.
    2. Open the Control Panel:
      • Windows Vista/7: Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
      • Windows 8: Right-click on the screen at bottom-left corner and choose Control Panel > Uninstall a Program.
      • Windows 10: Right-click on Start > Control Panel > Select View by: Small Icons > Programs and Features.
      • Windows 11 : Go to Installed Apps by typing the name in the search bar
    3. Click/highlight the relevant RWS product from the list of installed programs, e.g. Trados Studio 2022, select Uninstall/Change > Repair.
    4. Restart Trados Studio/MultiTerm.

    There are further options here:

Repairing your installation of Trados Studio (in the case of Studio is misbehaving)

Repairing your installation of MultiTerm Desktop (if the incorrect functionality is with MultiTerm)

I think that is enough questions for the moment! Let me know how you get on!

Also, if you want to learn more about term recognition or any other aspect of working with Trados, can I also suggest you take advantage of the new ideas for training hub that  has recently set up, where people can add requests for informal training sessions:

    Design your own training!
You've done the courses and still need to go a little further, or still not clear?
