"The process cannot access file as it is being used by another process"

Hi all, I created a project with around 3000 Incopy files and I got an error message at the end saying "le processus ne peut pas accéder au fichier car il est en cours d'utilisation par un autre processus" ("The process cannot access file as it is being used by another process"). The project is blank in the file view. Can anyone help?

  • I think we need a bit more information to hep here.  Am I correct in thinking that your problem now is just that the project has no files?  If please can you check the following:

    1. provide a better screenshot showing the full files/project views so we can also see what's in the navigation pane
    2. what happens if you try to create a single file project for just one of these InCopy files?
    3. the question you should always provide for... what version of Trado Studio are you using?  The full version name please.  Current versions are Trados Studio 2021 - 16.2.9.9198 and MultiTerm 2021 - 16.2.1.1044

  • Hi Paul,

I managed to create the project by adding files not altogether but in several batches. I still got the error message repeatedly, but in the end the project was created and all files seem to be there. However, my colleague working on the same project in a different language is still struggling. The error messages we receive don't seem to have any logic and the number of errors reported varies from one attempt to the next. To answer your last question, I have the following version of Studio: Screenshot showing Trados Studio 2019 SR2 version 15.2.0.1041.

    Here are my screen captures:

Screenshot of Trados Studio project preparation with an error message indicating 18 messages reported during 'Convert to Translatable Format'.

Screenshot of Trados Studio task results with 4 errors, all stating 'The process cannot access the file' with different file paths and associated with 'Convert to Translatable Format'.

  • ok.  Please can you upgrade Trados Studio 2019 to the current version first so we know we are dealing with something that hasn't been fixed in a later version. The cirrent version is:

    Trados Studio 2019 SR2 - 15.2.8.3007
    MultiTerm 2019 - 15.0.6.56482

Both of these are free to you as a licenced user of 2019 and will be available through your account, or the update service in Studio.

Next, if you still get this error please can you share the full error stack that will available here:

Error message in Trados Studio indicating 'The process cannot access the file' with file paths listed, and a callout box instructing to click on details, save the XML file, and attach it to the thread.
