Changes introduced in Trados Business Manager 6.0

New Major Release: Trados Business Manager version 6.0.0 (anticipated release date 27 April 2021)

[NEW] - new functionality [ADD] - smaller additions [IMPROVE] - changed functionality [FIX] - bug fixes - bug fixes

This release provides for three versions:

  • Trados Business Manager Essential
  • Trados Business Manager Team
  • Trados Business Manager Enterprise

The new Essential version is a desktop application designed to bring back the old BaccS functionality for Freelance Translators.  The Team and Enterprise versions are upgrades to the Team and Online versions that were available for version 5 respectively.  For more information please visit the Trados Business Manager information pages on the Trados website.


[NEW] Completely new platform with a new UI, 64-bit architecture and improved performance. Both the Online and Desktop versions are now the same browser-based applications.

[NEW] Completely new file manager. Files are now stored on hard drive instead of database, implemented support if file versions, improved cloud drives integration, made file uploading simpler.

[NEW] Multitenancy, allowing to have multiple databases (users) within single application.

[NEW] New view customization approach. List views, data entry forms and dashboards can now be customized in a centralized way. Custom views can be assigned by admins to any users or roles, which allows you to easily deliver customized layouts to other users. In previous version, it was difficult to achieve. In addition, it is now possible to provide different views to new documents and existing documents (for example, quote creation form for clients can may have different layout comparing to form used to view previously created quotes).

[NEW] Fully overhauled vendor and client portals - better UI, easier file uploads, etc.

[NEW] New Trados Studio integration, allowing to communicate between Studio running on a local user computer and TBM running on a server.

[NEW] Language Cloud integration (project creation, analysis downloading, progress tracking).

[NEW] New instant notifications are delivered within a second to users, which improves user experience. For example, if client creates a quote requests, or vendor accepts a job offer, you will immediately get notification about this.

[NEW] New visual filter builder in list views.

[NEW] Overhauled audit trail, which now presents information about changes in a much more user-friendly way.

[NEW] Excel export function and database export function now support custom fields. This means that exported information will include data from custom fields (which will be processed during data importing as well).

[NEW] New scheduler with different views, timelines and event grouping by clients.

[NEW] Possibility to limit IP-addresses allowed to access application.

[NEW] Languages and language pairs can now be optionally displayed as flags.

[NEW] Live filters in lists of jobs, projects and assignments (side panel like in online stores)

[NEW] Improved tabbed UI.

[NEW] Implement new report to analyze vendors' performance according to work time

[IMPROVE] Units - added language dependency

[IMPROVE] Improved Workload planner.

[IMPROVE] Improvements in the security configuration screens (improved usability and accessibility of elements).

[IMPROVE] Charge-free customers, allowing to hide prices and amounts from job editing form (useful for corporates)

[IMPROVE] Renamed Customers to Clients ('client' term could include both 'customers' and 'internal departments')

[IMPROVE] Vendors: multiple native languages and services provided table, which allows to specify services provided by vendors (previously was determined based on information from price-lists).

[IMPROVE] Added possibility to calculate vendors' amount per work time using hourly rate instead of quantities and units

[IMPROVE] Added possibility to calculate vendor's job as a percentage from amount of source tasks

[IMPROVE] New vendor busyness report

[IMPROVE] Notifications - It is now possible to select vendors or clients from whom managers can receive notifications.

[IMPROVE] Implemented notifications to responsible persons when another user creates projects or jobs and assigns some user as a responsible person.

[IMPROVE] Hundreds of small improvements throughout the whole application, which is hard to list here, but noticeable during application usage.

[FIX] Fixed currency rates download sources

Breaking change

Desktop application now uses different database engine - SQLite, instead of SQL Server CE. This requires to convert database from previous version, which is described in this article.
