Do you translate your Tridion Docs content?

Hello Community!

I'm Nigel Lock, a Solutions Consultant with RWS. We are interested in learning more about the scale of use cases associated with translating your content stored in Tridion Docs.

  1. What is a typical size for the publications that you send for translation? i.e. number of components/topics
  2. How many languages do you typically translate? 
  3. Is the content being sent from Tridion Docs (using Translation Organizer) to an RWS translation management system?

  • Hi  ! Here is the info for FICO.

    1. Around 300 topics (obviously some books are bigger, and books like Release Notes are much smaller tho)
    2. Average 3 languages for translation
    3. No. FICO pushes the objects to translation, then downloads them from the inbox and manually sends them to the translators. When done, we import the translated objects using Content Importer. This works well for us.

  • Hello Nigel!

    We do indeed translate manuals.

    1) The number of objects differs from one publication to the next. We use a LOT of libraries. Once a library is translated we don't need to do it again, and thus we save tons of money. Updates are then typically limited to less than 50 objects. However, when translating to a new language, or if it is a brand new publication, the number of objects can easily be more than 3000. Each object is very small.

    2) Two to seven languages

    3) We use "Translation job" and export the objects to a ZIP file. This ZIP file is sent to the translation agency. The objects returned are imported using Content Importer.

  • Hi Nigel,

    1. When translating a new manual, around 1500 topics are traslated. When revising a manual, around 10 to 50 topics are translated.

    2. Around 7 to 20 languages are translated at once.

    3. Yes, we use Translation Organizer.

    When translating a new manual into more than ten languages, it takes a whole day until completing pretranslation in a translation management system.

    Thank you Naoki! Very useful information for our analysis. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Thanks also for sharing the processing time for a larger job. There are some settings that can be adjusted and of course Tridion Docs version, and the scale of your infrastructure (i.e. batch processing servers) plays a role too but I'm happy to dialogue with you on that directly if you wish.     Thank you Ragnar! Very much appreciated and that's exciting that you are saving "tons of money" with content reuse and library files! :) And of that ROI multiplies with each language you are translating into. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
