Sharing a Translation Memory: Same LAN.

Hello,

I have Trados Professional and my co-worker has Trados Workgroup. I will be creating and managing translation projects, and he will be reviewing the translations.

Is there a way for us to both be able to access the same translation memory, and for the workgroup user to have access to edit it? Can we store it on a cloud based location?

  • Dear Dirk,

Perhaps, if you don't wish to invest in a proper server solution (GroupShare), then you can try the solution I suggested in the article. Use 2 or three TMs but each of you only write to their own. So you read the others but write to one. This avoids some of the complications that can occur when sharing a file-based TM that is really not geared for sharing like this.

The speed issues with the VPN... do you experience these issues with other shared resources and applications when using the VPN. I know I do sometimes and have to turn off the VPN to get improved speeds as this is the bottleneck. But obviously this won't fix your problem, only help identify what really needs to be fixed.

    Regards

    Paul
