Is there an easy way to combine several sdltm files?

I have several sdltm files from various projects that I would like to combine into a monster TM for the same company.

I know I can export each one to a tmx file and then import all the tmx files into the monster TM, but that's a lot of clicks and time-consuming.

Is there an easier way to do it? More automated, maybe?

Thanks in advance,

Dorte

There is an Open Exchange app called "SDLTMExport", which may be helpful, see here

On the other hand, as you mention that the TMs come from various projects, the ideal approach would be to take the SDLXLIFFs from these projects (provided you have them) and import them. The nice thing is that you can store all files in one folder and import them all in one go. This would even have the advantage that you get more information (fields) into your TM than with the TMX.

  • Hi guys,

Don't forget you can just upgrade them all in one go and you're left with one SDLTM containing them all.

  • You guys are just wonderful! I forgot about the upgrade function, Paul. That will clearly be the quickest. Thank you!
Looking at your TMs with different languages reminded me about something else: When I installed SP2, I noticed that there now is a World English. Is that an English type that will accept whatever English you throw at it?
I am asking because some of my clients in Europe use GB English so I get GB English-Danish packages, which is not a problem in itself. The problem is when I want to supplement the project with some of my own TMs (e.g. Microsoft glossary, IATE, etc.) - they are US English because I also have US clients. When I try to add anything US English to a GB English project (target is always the same) I am told it is not possible.
I have worked around by creating TMs with identical content with respectively US English and GB English as the source languages, but it gets messy keeping them in sync., etc.
So will World English let you combine US and GB English resources?
  • Hi Dorte,

"World English" is just one of the wonderful new flavours of English we get with W10.  I never realised until W10 what a talented linguist I was... over 60 flavours of English!

But the problem with language flavours in Studio for your TMs is simple... just use AnyTM when you add them.  It's part of Studio 2015 but this article written back when it was an openexchange app will explain all:

  • Hi Paul,

Oh yes, I forgot about AnyTM! I have it installed and have used it previously. It works great!

That's one of my problems: I download so many of the apps because they sound helpful, interesting, mind-blowing and what not, and then I forget what they were for later on.
One app I do remember very well was the one where we could change colors in Studio in connection with the World Cup in Brazil. Not particularly helpful, but still great.

Thanks for the reminder about AnyTM.
