Error message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when trying to export a translation

I am currently working on a project that involves translating idu files with Trados Studio 2015 but I have encountered a problem. These are the planned steps:
1. Save as IASCII in QuickSilver.
2. Use the S-Tagger to convert to ttx and translate in Trados.
3. Export and convert back with S-Tagger.
For testing this, I ran a pseudo translation with three files, saved them and tried an export. However, it didn't work for the two larger files and I got the "Object reference not set..." message (the third file that worked was just the TOC with little content).
I tried several solutions (deleting the three xml files, resetting the windows layout, doing a tag check), but nothing worked.
I also created a new project, ran a pseudo translation and exported this (without opening and saving in editor). This time it worked. But when I reopened it in the editor and saved it, I got the error again.
I then opened one small file in Editor, copied one of the pseudo translated sentences into all the other target segments, saved it and the export worked.
Then I copied a random different pseudo translation into all the other target segments and the export didn’t work.
So I really don't know what the problem might be. Does anyone have a possible solution for this?

    Hi Jan,

    Maybe also worth checking to see whether the TTX created with S-Tagger is fully segmented. This may contribute your problems when saving target as the segmentation could be incorrect for TagEditor or Workbench. Try using Workbench to segment unknown sentences for the TTX before you bring it into Studio.

    I don't work on Interleaf Quicksilver files any more but when I did, I had to create the ttx files using Trados version 2006 STagger and TagEditor and then work on that in Studio. The version of Quicksilver used by the client was older than that which Studio supports (8.3) and the encoding of characters had changed, which caused problems when converting back to .iascii format. Creating the ttx with the older version kept the older encoding intact when working on the ttx.sdlxliff in Studio.

    The version of your files won't be as old as that but as Paul suggests, it is likely that just opening and saving the ttx (or maybe better the pre-ttx .stf file itself) in SDL Trados 2007 TagEditor, if you have it installed, will complete the segmentation so that you can then open the resulting ttx in Studio without information being 'lost', which is what generates the Windows "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" message.

    I hope I'm explaining the above correctly. I haven't had Interleaf Quicksilver on my PC for years, so this is from memory... I presume you have it or you wouldn't be able to open the .idu files.
