Error "failed to verify document: device not ready"

I am trying to verify (QA, Tags and Terminology) a 35,000 word XML document in Trados Studio 2024 (Trados Studio 2024 SR1 - 18.1.4.6694, Windows 11) and this error is shown. I switched off the various options (Tags, QA and Terminology) to determine if one of them throws this error, but verification won't work for any of them. I have never seen this error before, nor can I find it in the Trados community/forum.

  • Hello,

It seems like you're encountering a unique issue during the verification process in Trados Studio 2024. The error "failed to verify document: device not ready" could be related to a variety of factors, such as a plugin conflict, a corrupted file, or a system resource issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:

    ### Step 1: Disable the Language Tool Plugin

    - Navigate to **Project Settings > Verification**.

    - Locate the **Language Tool plugin** and disable it.

    - Save the settings and try running the verification again.

    ### Step 2: Check for File Corruption

    - Open the XML file in a text editor to ensure it is not corrupted or contains invalid characters.

    - If possible, re-export the XML file from its source system and re-import it into Trados Studio.

    ### Step 3: Test with a Smaller File

    - Create a smaller test file by splitting the XML document into smaller parts.

    - Import one part into Trados Studio and run the verification to see if the issue persists.

    ### Step 4: Verify System Resources

    - Ensure your system has sufficient memory and processing power to handle a 35,000-word document.
