Trados Studio 2024 - 18.1.4.6694 - merging segments not possible in English UI?

Hi all,

I had to switch from my German UI to English to explain something to a colleague and then left the UI in English when continuing my translation. When trying to merge two normal segments (Word file, nothing special), the second one would not highlight in the editor when I clicked its number in the number column. A restart of Trados was to no avail, so I think it's a bug.

When I returned to the German UI, merging worked as expected again. Has anyone also experienced this bug in the English UI?

Best regards

Annette (from Manfred's account)

  • Hi

Thanks for having had a look into this. I did some testing:

First, I retried (I had to restart Trados anyway after changing the display language), the same happened again.

However, I was wrong when writing that merging didn't work: I "marked" the second segment again (this is where nothing happened, the segment was not highlighted), then right-clicked anyway and selected "Merge Segments". The segments were actually merged.

Then I had a look at the color settings. I usually work with a user-defined color (orange) for "Selected segment background color" because the default "Chiffon" color is hard to see in unfavorable light. I had a look under File > Options > Colors, where I found that that color under "Selected segment background color", which was orange in my German UI, had been set to "nothing":

So no surprise it didn't work...

The same is true the other way round: I selected another user-defined color for English, and after switching back to German, the setting was gone:

Conclusion: Any user-defined color selected in the German UI is not retained when switching to the English UI in my case and vice versa. Probably the same is true for other language combinations.

This is no serious bug, but a bit confusing, and I am quite sure that it worked in earlier Trados versions. Maybe you can eliminate it some day. Thanks!

    Best regards
