Studio 2026 is very slow and does not recognize perfect matches

My Trados Studio 2026 is incredibly slow; it doesn’t even recognise perfect matches and spends what feels like an eternity on a segment without suggesting any translation. However, if I highlight a few words in the source segment, it suggests the translation straight away. It basically doesn’t recognise CMs or 100% matches… how is that possible? I’m at breaking point; I have a project to finish that I started in Studio 2024 and I can’t seem to make any progress. The settings are the same as in 2024. Please tell me how I can sort this out. Thanks in advance. Laura

  • Hello Laura,

I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing with Trados Studio 2026. Let's work through this step by step to resolve the issue and get you back on track with your project:

    ### Step 1: **Check for Updates**

    - Ensure that you are using the latest version of Trados Studio 2026. Updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes. You can check for updates directly within the application under the "Help" tab.

    ### Step 2: **Verify Translation Memory (TM) Settings**

    - Open your project settings and ensure that the correct translation memory is attached and enabled.

    - Check the "Search" settings under the TM options to confirm that "Context Matches (CM)" and "100% Matches" are enabled.

    ### Step 3: **Reorganize Your TM**

    - If your TM is large or has not been maintained recently, reorganizing it can improve performance. To do this:

     1. Go to the "Translation Memories" view in Trados Studio.

     2. Select your TM, right-click, and choose "Reorganize."

     3. Allow the process to complete, which may take some time depending on the size of the TM.

  • Everything suggested to be checked is OK. I am really in trouble. Is anybody out there who can help me? Thank you in advance.

Tell us more about the machine you are using. Is this a laptop? How old? How many RAM? Are your projects and TMs stored locally or do you keep them in cloud like Dropbox or similar? These are crucial information to understand your problem. Typically TS2026 performs much faster on properly equipped machines. It can utilise much more power from the PC as all previous versions due to its 64 bit architecture.

  • Hi Jerzy,

thank you for answering. I’m currently using a company-issued HP EliteBook 640 laptop that’s only six months old. Everything worked perfectly with Studio 2024. The company has just bought me the new Studio 2026; I’ve carried out the upgrade and it’s performing very poorly. In particular, it isn’t displaying CMs or 100% context matches. Projects are saved in folders on OneDrive, exactly as with TS2024.

Which could be the problem? Thanks

Projects stored in a cloud are always a big problem. It wonders me, that this worked properly with TS2024. Please test, if the same problems appear with files stored completely locally, without any permanent connection to the cloud.

However, depending on the exact specification, your HP EliteBook 640 does not belong to powerful machines. When equipped with Intel Core 3 processor, it is a very weak one. The processor and the memory are the bottlenecks slowing your work, most probably.
