Problems opening a project in Trados Studio 2022 and getting message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

Hi,

I’m experiencing persistent issues with Trados Studio 2022 that began right after installing the latest update. Since then, Studio has been crashing during work or suddenly displaying memory‑related errors.

I managed to finish my deliveries, but now I can’t find any solution to restore normal functionality.

To troubleshoot, I tried opening two different projects: one published (online) and one offline. Both show the same problems — either memory errors or the message “Object reference not set to an instance of an object.” For the offline package, I tested it in Trados Studio 2019 and it opened perfectly, so the package itself is not the issue. Unfortunately, I cannot do the same with the online project.

With the online project, every time I try to open even a single file, Studio immediately throws the “Object reference not set…” error, and after that the entire toolbar becomes unresponsive. At this point I’m completely stuck.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Trados Studio several times, including manually deleting all Trados‑related folders — the error persists.

  • Downgraded Studio using the official downloader; I also reinstalled using the 2024 installer (the latest available is 2025) from oos.sdl.com/.../products…

  • Before uninstalling, I also tried renaming the Projects and Trados folders by adding “_old”, but it made no difference.

Nothing has resolved the issue so far.

Could someone help me understand what might be causing this and how to fix it?
