Translation memory not working

I am starting on a new project, and I specified a translation memory to be used as this is for a returning customer for who I already translated material.

Nothing is happening when I type my translation, even if I know that what I am typing has been translated many times before. This has been happening since I started to use Trados. I am a total newbie.

It is very frustrating to not be able to use the main function of the CAT tool.

Thank you for your help!

  • Hello,

I understand your frustration and I'm here to help. It seems like your Translation Memory (TM) is not updating as it should. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot this issue:

Step 1: Confirm that the TM was correctly added to the project. You can do this by going to your project, then to 'Settings', then 'Translation Engine'. Check the Translation Memories added to the project and ensure the 'Update' checkbox next to it is ticked.

Step 2: Check the task history to see if the Translation Memory Update was completed, skipped, or failed. You can do this by going to your project, then to 'Task History'. Look for the 'Translation Memory update' task and check its status. It should be 'Completed'. If it's 'Skipped' or 'Failed', there might be an issue that needs to be addressed.

Step 3: If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you might want to consider creating a new Translation Memory for the project. This can sometimes resolve any underlying issues that might be preventing the TM from updating.

Remember, Trados Studio is designed to help you work more efficiently, and the TM is a key part of that. I hope these steps help you resolve your issue. If you continue to experience problems, don't hesitate to ask for further assistance.
