Perfect Match "Previous documents from Map"

Dear everybody, can someone please explain what this "Previous documents from map" is? I need to use Perfect Match on sevearl hundred documents. Problem is: The file names have changed since the previous version and this sounds promising. However, there is no explanation how it should be structured.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Michael

  • Hello Michael,

The "Previous documents from map" feature in Trados Studio is used when you want to apply PerfectMatch on several documents, especially when the file names have changed since the previous version. This feature allows you to map files in the new project to the translated bilingual files in the previous project. This is particularly useful when you have a large number of files and the names in the new project do not match the names in the previous project.

Here's how you can use this feature:

Step 1: During project preparation, add a bilingual file (Previous Document) for each document to be translated. This should be a previously translated version of the same document.

Step 2: If you have more than one target language, select the language in question. Trados Studio will then extract translations from that file and apply them to the Project File during project preparation.

Step 3: Choose what status to apply to such hits (PerfectMatch or whatever status and origin they have in the Previous Document used).

Step 4: Use map files to map files in the new project to the translated bilingual files in the previous project. This is where the "Previous documents from map" feature comes into play.

For more detailed instructions on how to use map files, you can refer to the Help section in Trados Studio titled "About Map Files".

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

    Best regards,

  • This reply still does not answer my question on what format this file needs to be. I guess left column new version, right column new version. But this is guessing. Do I need a kind of header? I need to map hundreds of documents whose file names differ from the old to the new version. Doing this manuall is no option.

    Thank you
