What is the path for the default project template? I can't remove the extra target language(s) in the project setup page.

Hi!  I am using the current version of Trados Studio 2022 SR2.  I was trying to create a new local project, but an error appeared that says my version enables me to create new projects in up to three target languages. And then it says to go to my Project Template Settings and remove extra target language from the default project template.

When I close the error message, it also closes the project setting page, so I can't remove the extra target language from the box. I can see that there are four target languages listed on the screen, but I haven't been able to figure out how to remove the extra languages from that window.

Can someone show me how to solve this problem? This seems to be a bug that came with the newer versions.  I did not remember having this issue before.

Thank you!

  • Error message in Trados Studio stating 'Cannot apply default project template. Your version of Trados Studio enables you to create new projects in up to three target languages. Go to your Project Template Settings and remove extra target languages from the default project template.' with an OK button.Hi Paul,

    Hi Paul,

I received this error message after I clicked on New Project icon>New local project>and then the error message shows up.

With the error message present, would it be possible to remove German from the available Target Languages list directly from this project creation page?  If not, can you tell me which lines to remove in the default project template file?  I guess I would use a text editor to open the template file, right?

Thank you again for your help.

why don’t you do as I suggested and just remove the languages from the default template using the route I gave you?

you don’t need to mess around with a text editor in the template files.

  • Did you mean removing the languages using File -> Setup - Project Templates?

I saw three items available next to the template file: import, edit, and remove. Edit takes me to the translation memory page, Remove says I can't remove a default template file.

I then went to the c:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Studio 2022\Project Templates\Default.sdltpl and deleted the Default.sdltpl file.  Still receives the same error message when trying to create new project.

I will come back to investigate the issue after I deliver the project.  Luckily it's a single file so I could get by using the Translate as a Single Document option.

  • This is exactly what I was looking for.  By removing the unwanted target language under Language Pairs, the problem was solved and now I can create new projects again.

Thank you so much for your help and the great video, Paul!
