Bilingual Excel file for proofreading

I need to import bilingual Excel files for proofreading (with one column in English, and another column in the target language). When I go t File/Options/Bilingual Excel/Common, and fill out the name of the 2 columns, and then preview the file, I get the source + target in one column, and an exact copy in the other column (source + target again), instead of the source in one column and the target in the other. The second problem is that I can't see the file in the project list if I ckick OK, it doesn't appear at all. I can only see t in a popup window if I click "Preview". Appreciate any help, thanks

  • Hello,

It seems like you're having trouble importing a bilingual Excel file for proofreading in Trados Studio. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio and go to "File" > "Options" > "File Types".

Step 2: Untick all the Excel file types except for the Bilingual Excel.

Step 3: Navigate to "Bilingual Excel" > "Common". Here, type in the letters that correspond to the Source Column and Translation Column in your document. If the first line of your document is a column heading, leave the option "First line is column heading" ticked. If it doesn't, untick this option.

Step 4: Open your Excel file from the Welcome view in Trados Studio and choose the option of translating it as a single document. This will process the spreadsheet as a bilingual file, and your target segments will be already populated.

    Step 5: Confirm all segments.

Step 6: Add or create a Translation Memory (TM).

Step 7: Go to "Batch Tasks" > "Update Main Translation Memories".

If you're still having trouble seeing the file in the project list, it might be due to a glitch. Try restarting Trados Studio and repeat the process. If the problem persists, it might be a good idea to check if there are any updates available for your Trados Studio software.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
