Language Pair Not Supported Consuder using AnyTM to translation memory

Two of our users just received an error when attempting to access one of our translation memories. The error is "Translation provider "General-Spanish to English (all translation units)" does not support any language pair in this project or project template.  Consider using AnyTM (Add -> AnyTM) to add to your translation memory".  We have been using Trados Studio for a number of years but have not experienced this error.  Any idea what it is or what we need to do to resolve it?

  • Hello,

The error message you're encountering is indicating that the language pair in your project or project template is not supported by the translation memory you're trying to use. This could be due to a mismatch between the languages in your project and those in your translation memory.

Here's how you can resolve this issue:

Step 1: Check the language pair in your project or project template. Make sure it matches the language pair in your translation memory.

Step 2: If the language pairs do not match, you can adjust the language settings in your project or project template to match those in your translation memory.

Step 3: If the language pairs do match, but you're still encountering the error, consider using the AnyTM feature in Trados Studio. This feature allows you to use translation memories with any language pair, regardless of the languages in your project.

    To use AnyTM:

Step 1: Go to the "Translation Memories" view in Trados Studio.

Step 2: Click on "Add" and then select "AnyTM".

Step 3: In the dialog box that appears, select the translation memory you want to use.

Step 4: Click "OK" to add the translation memory to your project.

Remember, AnyTM should be used as a last resort, as it can lead to inconsistencies in your translations if the language pairs in your project and translation memory are not closely related.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Best regards,

Any idea what it is or what we need to do to resolve it?

What are the exact languages in your project?

What are the exact languages in your TM?

By exact I don't mean "General-Spanish to English", I mean the specific languages, so these for example:

Spanish (Spain) -> English (United Kingdom)

Spanish (Latin America) -> English (US)

    Spanish (Ecuador) -> English (Australia)

    etc.

Does the TM match the Project exactly?  If not and you sill want to use this TM then you can still make it work by using AnyTM to select the TM and add it to your project.
