Trados cannot locate TBs after upgrade to SR2

After upgrading to SR2, as reported by several other users, Trados is no longer able to locate project-associated termbases.

So far as I can gather, the problem arises because I'm running a Virtual Machine under Parallels in a Mac environment and have always saved Trados projects to folders that are backed up to iCloud, meaning that what appear to be actual files in the directory may actually be only 'footprints' in reality. While this was not a problem with SR1, in order to access them with SR2, it appears that I need to save Termbases to a folder on the Root disc (C:).

I have now moved the project I was working on to a folder on disc C: and everything seems OK.

Does anyone know whether this issue is likely to be addressed in a future update/service pack?

  • Hello,

I understand your concern about Trados Studio not being able to locate project-associated termbases after upgrading to SR2. This issue seems to be related to the use of a Virtual Machine under Parallels in a Mac environment and saving Trados projects to folders that are backed up to iCloud.

Here are some steps you can take to address this issue:

Step 1: Disable the Shared Folders and Shared Profile features in your virtual machine software. This will remove the folder connection between your Mac and Windows operating systems, and disallow document sharing between the two.

Step 2: Open Virtual Machine > Configuration > Options > Shared Folders.

Step 3: Click the Share these Mac folders field and select None to disable the Mac folders sharing.

Step 4: In the User-defined Mac OS X folders table, manually remove any shared folders, by selecting it and clicking Remove ( - ).

Step 5: Now open Shared Profile from the left side of this window. It is located under Options > Shared Profile.

Step 6: Disable Shared Profile by removing the checkbox next to Enable.

Step 7: Click OK. Reboot your virtual machine.

Please note that using RWS applications on Apple Macintosh systems is not officially supported and we may not always be able to assist in configuring your Mac to make RWS software work. However, we will always try to help where we can and we will publish any relevant troubleshooting information in our knowledge base.

As for your question about whether this issue will be addressed in a future update/service pack, I don't have that information at the moment. However, RWS is always working to improve its products and services, and feedback from users like you is invaluable in that process.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Best regards,
