Multilingual Excel segmentation

Hi,

I do have a question regarding the segmentation in a Multilingual Excel file.

Where the source Excel is segmented correctly, the imported target isn't.

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing a segmented source Excel file with correct segmentation in German and incorrect segmentation in the imported Portuguese target file.

Is it possible to add rules for the import segmentation?

Thanks,

Johannes

  • Hello Johannes,

It seems like you're having trouble with the segmentation of a multilingual Excel file in Trados Studio. I understand that the source Excel is segmented correctly, but the imported target isn't.

To add rules for the import segmentation, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Open your translation memory in Trados Studio.

Step 2: In the Translation Memories View, select your translation memory and go to File > Settings.

Step 3: In the Translation Memory Settings window, select Language Resources.

Step 4: In the right pane, select Segmentation Rules and click on the Edit button.

Step 5: In the Segmentation Rules window, select the option Sentence based segmentation and click Add.

Step 6: In the Add Segmentation Rule window, click on the Advanced View button.

Step 7: Give your rule a name, for example, "Soft Line Break" and add:

      - Before break: .[\n]+

      - After break: .

Step 8: Click OK to save your rule and close the Translation Memory Settings window.

After following these steps, when you re-open your document again with the modified translation memory, you should now see the cell distributed over three lines, taking the soft line breaks as a segment delimiter.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Best regards,

  • In the Excel file, several sentences separated by periods are in one cell. Source and target text do not contain soft line breaks but periods at the end of a sentence. Studio recognizes the period as segment separator in the source, but not in the imported target.
