Can I replace markups with real dashes?

A client has sent me a project with a lot of dashes represented as markup. When I look in the pdf, I see that it was created with Ms Word, but I find this hard to believe for a manual of 600+ pages...

Anyway, is it possible to replace all these markups with real dashes?

    So you're translating a PDF?

If so the only way is probably to convert to DOCX first, and then replace the dashes that the conversion used with normal dashes.  They won't show up if they are simply normal dashes:

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing a Word document with incorrect dashes. Text includes various sentences in German with dashes replaced by longer conversion dashes.

But also note, you probably don't need to have these tags in the target as well since they are most likely formatting only... unless you have a really old version of Trados?  So aside from wanting a clean TM you probably don't have a barrier to working here.
