Hi,
I'm having problems generating the target file for a huge (and of course urgent) Excel file with Studio 2019. I took care during the translation not to merge any segments as I know that that can cause problems.
The error message is that it can't save the target content as the object reference is not set to an instance of an object.
Any help much appreciated !

I suggest the easiest way to solve the problem may be to take the original source file and open it as a single file translation. Then pre-translate from your TM which should populate the whole file, especially if you didn't merge segments. Finally save the target.
If that doesn't work there may be a problem with the file in your version of Studio, so if you are able to share the source, and either your translated sdlxliff or a TM, then I'd be happy to try and recover it for you in a more recent version of Trados Studio.

Hi Paul,
I already tried pre-translating again from the TM and it didn't work. Thank you for your offer but I'm a bit hesitant about sharing data that isn't actually mine. I'll see with the customer (an agancy) whether they can solve it, otherwise I may come back to you, with their permission.

If so, can you open the Excel as a single file project and then immediately try to save the target without translating it. If that fails then you have a problem with the Excel file itself... at least in your version of Studio. In this case you could try splitting up the file and testing half by half... then split the half that fails and repeat. Eventually (not too long) you'll find the problem part and can exclude it while you pre-translate the rest of the file. Then just manually add the missing part into the translated file.

Just tried that and I couldn't generate the target file so it seems to be a problem with the Excel source file. I'll have to see about splitting it up....
Might be worth downloading the trial version of Trados Studio 2022. That might handle your file if you recreate the project in there.
