Moving and renaming projects

Studio 2021, Windows 10 – I have a project title which contains a typo (wrong keyboard language). The project is also in the wrong client folder.

I’m worried that simply correcting the title from the project list could mean that Studio won’t recognise it if I try to open it.

How can I safely (a) rename and (b) refile it without losing the internal links?

  • Hello,

I understand you want to rename and move your project in Trados Studio 2021 without losing any internal links. Here's how you can do it:

Step 1: Close Trados Studio 2021.

Step 2: Navigate to the location of your project. The default location is usually in the Documents folder under "Studio 2021\Projects".

Step 3: Find the project folder you want to rename and change the name as desired.

Step 4: If you want to move the project to a different client folder, simply cut and paste the entire project folder to the new location.

Step 5: Restart Trados Studio 2021.

Step 6: Go to "File" -> "Open Project" and navigate to the new location of your project. Select the project file (.sdlproj) and click "Open".

This should allow you to rename and move your project without losing any internal links. However, please note that any shortcuts or recent project lists in Trados Studio may still point to the old location and name, so you may need to update these manually.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Here are the (simplest) steps to take:

    • Go to your project settings and rename the project there

If you wish to place this project in another folder, here are the steps to take:

    • Remove the project from the project list in Trados Studio
    • Close Trados Studio
    • Go to the folder of your project and move all parts of the project to the desired folder
    • If desired, rename the *.proj file
    • Copy the path to your new project location*
    • Open Trados Studio
    • Use the command "Open project"
    • Paste the copied path and open the project

    * If there have been TMs** or TBs** in your previous project location, these will be now reported as missing. What you need to is to direct Trados Studio to the new locations of these.
** If the TMs are project TMs and the location of main TMs did not change and if the location of TBs outside of the project folders did not change, no errors will occur
