Establish priority of the Translation Memory results by user

Dear Community!

How can I configure my project settings to get MY translations results from the TM FIRST, and then, in case there are none, search and fill the segments with those of other users.

This issue is tricky, because there may be MY fuzzy matches (97%, for example) and then someone´s CM, and then , logically, Trados will return other users´CM rather than my 97% result which I would prefer.

So, I thought, that maybe it is better to, first, establish the TM to pretranslate with MY results only (fuzzies and CMs), then, remove the user filter and pretranslate again to fill the gaps with other users´s translations, or continue manually.

The question is: how to apply this user filter to the TM in the Project settings (not in the Tranlations memories window).

Thanks in advace!

I don't really think this is a filter.  I think you'd just disable all the other TMs, do your pre-translation and then add the others back to do it again and fill any gaps.

It is tricky.  You could penalise the TMs you don't want to show up irrespective, but then are there some limits?  So you said you'd prefer a 97% match from your TM over a CM in another.  Is there a fuzzy in your TM where you draw the line and would actually prefer to have a CM from another by default?  If you cannot answer this then you have no solution and should stick to the method above.  If you can answer it then set the penalty to ensure a CM will kick in below your limit.

  • Dear Paul, thank you so much for your reply!

In the first place, I guess I did not explain the problem properly.

The idea was to apply during pretranslation only MY translations (priority) from a common TM. Or, exclude from pretranslation the segments of an XXX-user.

So I found the solution and it works just fine!!!! Just apply the user-filter right here, in the Configuration project:

I activate the option to get the results I need from the TM and then, after pretranslation which returns only my results in this particular case, I deactivate it and that´s it! So easy! Any filter can be applied: by date, user, last modification, etc.

Then you may say that it could be appropriate to clean the TM from the "unwanted" users´ translations once and for all, but we use them as a draft, so we just let them be, though, if not properly filtered, they can be annoying (especially when the Translation results window shows a much better translation  as a 99% fuzzy and the worse resut is added to the target segment and requires manual replacement).

Hope this small trick helps the Community members to pretranslate easier and better!

    Best regards!

Indeed that information would have been useful :-)

Excellent. Thanks for sharing the solution that worked for you!
