The local languageTool server is not available

Dear all,

I have recently installed Trados Studio 2022 and I would like to ask for help troubleshoot the following messages that I keep receiving while I confirm a segment:

1- The local languageTool server is not available. Click retry to start the server.

Error: Unable to connect to the remote server

2- The system cannot find the file specified File C:\ProgramData\StudioLanguageToolPlugin\jdk-11-jre\bin\java.exe doesnt exist. Unable to start the LT server.

Kindly help

Thank you

  • Hi  ,

Unlike most other Trados Studio plugins, the LanguageTool Plugin itself is not enough to work. The LanguageTool Plugin requires Java (specifically the Java Runtime Environment, JRE) and the LanguageTool package (LT) to work.

The plugin works similarly to machine translation plugins, for example. The plugin connects to the server, sends the translation for verification, and receives errors if detected. Therefore, a connection to the server is necessary. You can use a premium server in the cloud or a server running locally on your computer. These errors occur when the plugin cannot connect to the selected server, which is most often caused by incorrect setup of the plugin.

In version 4.x (for Studio 2022 and 2021), a Setup Wizard module has been added to the plugin, which automates the download and installation of the necessary components. With the new Setup Wizard, it takes just a few clicks in the plugin to set everything up. Setting up the LanguageTool Plugin has never been so easy.

Here is a video for the latest version, in which I show, in detail, the entire setup process: https://youtu.be/KmifHXcxJeM
Here is an online user's guide that covers all the essentials for the plugin user: https://posteditacat.xyz/new-video-tutorial-how-to-setup-the-languagetool-plugin/
A very similar PDF document can also be downloaded directly from the plugin.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you still have issues with the plugin.
