SAVE AS TARGET IDML PROBLEM - GET THE ERROR: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object

I'm using the 2021 R1 release of Studio Freelance

Have translated the idml file, but when I try to save as target I'm getting the Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object error.

I have checked the tags, and the are equal in the source and the target.

Does anyone knows how to solve this problema, or what I'm doing wrong?

  • Try opening the original source file as a new single file project and then immediately save the target.  So before doing anything else.  If it works then try pre-translating this same single file project from your TM, it may well work.

If this simple test doesn't work there is a problem for Studio with the file you are trying to handle and we'd need to look at this with the development team.  So if this is the case you can send the source file to me and if I can reproduce the problem I'll raise a bug for investigation.  That of course won't help with your current problem, but lets cross that bridge if we get there.

So please try the simple tests first.

I have solve the problem. What did I do?

    1. Export the indd to idml.

    2. I tried to open the idml file but InDesign crashed, so there must be something in the file causing the problem.

    3. I copy and paste all the text in the InDesign file obtaining that a Content tag will be deleted. Thats ok... some overflow of text occurred and in a quick view the figures data was duplicated, but can handle it...

    4. Created a new idml file. This time I can reopen the file in InDesign.

    5. As you suggested I open the original source file as a new single file and then immediately save the target... but the problem continued. So I returned to InDesign.

    6. I opened the view>structure and in a lateral window a book paper wrap structure appeared containing some metadata, html and indexing structures. I deleted all those structure except the ones containing the file data itself.

    7. Then a new idml file was created and returned to Trados y retry your suggestion of opening and saving the target. It worked!!! Made the translation and no problem, the target file was created.

So something about the metadata, and indexing capabilities of InDesign is not supported by Trados.

I appreciate your suggestions and help.
