Inserting bold formatting

Question

Hello! 
 I'm trying to insert bold formatting in places where there isn't any in the source file. My bold formatting button is greyed out so I tried to add a quick insert command in the file type but it wont't work nevertheless. It's an xml file. Any ideas where my mistake is?

 But this is only going to be useful if the xml filetype has been configured to support this, and because the xml file knows what to do with whatever tags have been set up to support "bold". If the xml file Tanja Hampf has been provided has not been set up this way then no CAT tool will be able to add formatting that can actually be useful for the final target format. 
 If it was made possible to simply add a generic "bold" tag (whatever that would be??) this might even break the ability to use the xml in whatever application it is intended for.
