InDesign crashes when opening IDML translated with Studio 2021

Hi there,

I would need some help with a recent project. I translated some IDML files from a catalogue, and now my client is unable to open some of them in inDesign because it crashes. The files are corrupted and I have already contacted the InDesgn support and they said that the files are impossible to repair.

The source idml files opened regularly, I had no problem during the project creation,  translation and exporting, so I guess that something wrong happened in Studio. Any help?

  • Hi ,
We have encountered a similar issue if not the same. What I realized when opening the IDML in InDesign is that it had multiple layers. Among them one layer for each target language. The source text was to be taken from only one layer with text in the source language. So I went and deleted layers of target languages and only left the layer with the source text, then I saved a copy again as IDML. After processing this file in Trados Studio 2021 SR2 CU12, the previously corrupt target file now could be opened in InDesign without any problems. Of course, the layers were missing, but the client would have had to edit the layers nonetheless.
I am not saying that this is the cause, but the cause may have something to do with having multiple layers in the source IDML file and something there interfering within the resulting target file.
