Dependency file not found and Large source files

Hello

Have had a translator run into this error message when they went to open a Package.  I have read some of the other posts about this. Those fixes could intimidate those that are not as sure of their computer abilities, but not what looking to talk about.

This package was created for a large PPT file.  It is around 23MB.  I read an blog post where it sounds like the sdlxliff file created in this package is excluded because of the file size.  Thus the error message when someone tries to open the package and does not have the source file downloaded.

Does this kind of defeat the creation of a package, especially if that package has specific settings in its template?  If the translator needs to also download the PPT file (or any other large source file) wouldn't the chance of them just translating that file and skip the package a likelihood.

Should any package created include the source file no matter the size?

    I think two things.  First, if the problem is the missing file because of it's size then this is down to whoever created the project package in the first place.  There is a setting to control this as soetimes you don't want to send huge packages around, and if you don't ned the translator to be able to preview or save a target file then they don't need this anyway.  The setting is here... this is the default:

    You can embed up to 100Mb.

    Secondly the problem could also be related to the user having an aggresssive security setup that wipes the temp folder while Studio is using it.  This also occurs sometimes and the problem is resolved by allowing Studio processes to run unhindered.

    You are the man. 

    I can count on you to help give an answer that will help.

    Did not know about this size limiter in Trados and the person setup the Package protocols might not, or had a reason for leaving at this limit.  Will have to check.

    This might even help some others who run into this issue with packages instead of the more complicated fix.
