How can I stop Trados from saving Excel as hidden?
The solutions in the Internet to unhide do not function.
Excel what? Files? Columns?
If these were hidden before, they will remain hidden. This is on purpose, as the hidden content shall not be translated.

But they were not hidden before.
More than strange - never happened to me here. Are you sure to speak about the same file? If you created the SDLXLIFF on your own, the columns should appear as before. If the SDLXLIFF has been created elsewhere, might be, that the columns were hidden there.
Have you seen the text from hidden columns in your translation? If not, you could also check the corresponding file type for XLSX, there is an option for omitting columns.

I imported an Excel file, did the translation and saved it.When I click a cell, I see the associated text in the Edit window.

This is indeed very strange. Please check your filetype settings.

I have copied the original columns to Word and Cut/Pasted the translation. Luckily only the Excel had only 2 columns.
This kind of problem would surely have disappeared through exporting to csv, which you could have re-imported to Excel without any copying and pasting, but I am very surprised that formerly non-hidden cells were hidden in the target file.
Could you anonymize /pseudo-translate the file and post it?
Which Excel file type did you use?

As an experiment, I saved the original file as Excel 97. Retranslated and saved. No problem with hidden columns.

Then we are definitely NOT talking about hidden columns, since if a column would be really hidden (as per the Excel terminology), you wouldn't be able to click the cell in the first place!.
So you are most probably talking about something like "invisible text", i.e. a white font color on white background, or something similar... Which is a completely different thing than hidden text/columns.
Thanks, sometimes the answer is "obvious". But this does not explain where this new colouring came from.
That can be found out by analyzing the original Excel content and the content in Studio, using some experience and knowledge and looking for suspicious things...
Perhaps the coloring is there already, but your Studio Editor setting shows only the text without formatting, i.e. you thought it's not there?
Hard to say without knowing every possible detail about the files, your settings, habits and processes.
