Cannot change source formatting

Question

From reading posts about similar issues, do I understand correctly that there is absolutely no way to change the format (bold, case, etc.) of source text once an xliff has been created? 
 
 I received a Word file from a client only to receive the artwork for the copy a few days later, and the artwork contained formatting that the Word file did not (mostly bolding and all caps). Even though I have Edit Source enabled, when I go to edit the source segment the Advanced option for Change Case and the Formatting options on the Home tab for bold, italics, etc. are all grayed out. I was hoping to be able to make the changes in the xliff so that the correct cases, etc. are saved when I update the TM.

Indeed - Studio is NOT a formatting tool. And we are not expected to adapt the formatting of customers documents. If you do not see formatting, it is not necessarily equal to no formatting - it might be you don't have the corresponding fonts. Bolding for complete sentences and capital letters are quite often applied via styles and styles are not represented in Studio, as this is simply not necessary. 
 So in a nutshell: you cannot change formatting of any source document. And you should not do that, at least NOT in Studio. If you have to do that, do it in the source application.
