How can the total number of words increase after adding a TM?

Dear all, 
 I've been sent a project package which contains a sdlxliff made from a docx file, but no TM whatsoever. The analysis shows a total number of roughly 4700 words. After adding a local TM and performing an analysis batch task, the total number of words has increased to roughly 4900 words. How is this possible? 
 I'd understand if the number of fuzzies varies depending on the TM, but shouldn't the total number of words be independent from the TM? 
 Just trying to understand what's happening. 
 Studio 2019 SR2.

 Just guessing, but check your TM settings. Under "Fields and Settings" there is a section "Count as one if words: Are hyphenated / Are joined by dashes / Contain formatting tags / Contain apostrophes". 
 I am not sure what happens without a TM, but the Studio documentation says the first two and last of these are enabled by default, so presumably your first word count was counting each hyphenated word as one word. 
 If the box for hyphenated words is not checked in your TM, then the second word count would include each hyphenated word as two words instead of one. 
 Similar differences could occur if the other boxes are unchecked.

 It depends on how the TM was set up. The language resources that are used for analysis are held on the TM, so even a wordcount could vary if the analysis is carried out against differet TMs.
