I have tried to replicate what you are experiencing and simply cannot.

Running a repair has had no effect on the plugins or user settings file whatsoever.

It would be good to hear the full story, so we can try to replicate the problem.

What app caused Studio to crash? Did you remove this before doing a repair installation?

Can you provide a screen shot of your plugin folder (are the plugins still listed or maybe duplicated?

Any further info you can provide would be most useful.

The error message was this: "Sdl.Desktop.Platform.CommandBars.IActionService could not be started".

Since I had installed about ten new/revised plugins before this error appeared, I have no idea of which of them caused this problem.

The first thing I tried was actually renaming the BaseSettings, UserSettings and Plugincache folders and restart the program. This caused the disappearance of practically all my AppStore plugins from the PlugIns list.

So then I re-activated the renamed folders and ran a repair, with the same result. But now the old folders were gone, which means I can't even replicate the original error.

Here is my current Plugins list:

It's not a big problem; I can re-install the plugins even if it takes some time. But from what you tell me, evidently this effect is not intentional, which is good to know.

Renaming the folders would of course make the apps 'dissappear' as Studio would be looking for the original install when loading.

Just check the following (2) folders and ensure nothing is remaining before you reinstall the plugs ins-

As I said, I reactivated the folders before running the repair... At least, that's what I think. I may remember wrongly.

So what you are saying is that if I had run a repair the first thing I did (without manipulating the folder names), the apps would have been still there? Sounds reasonable.

On the other hand, I know that I have renamed these folders to fix other startup problems before, and I can't remember having this particular problem.
