one workaround should be..

delete all ASCII characters (including numbers and punctuations etc. if you want) and count rest of them

if your document is strictly bilangual (English/Chinese)

when you count "Chinese Character", first filter it out on the basis of my first comment

Hmnn... I don't think that's right.  In #1 the total words should be 6, of which 4 are chinese chars, the same for #2.  So 12 words and 8 chinese chars.

Or am I missing something here?

This is the point.  The OP already told us what the count should be in the original post.  So for chinese chars you need to count one word per character (there are no spaces).  So two clear english words plus four chinese "words".

I'm not being difficult here, but as you went to the trouble of developing a plugin for it you might as well get it right don't you think?
