The Update file function was designed to help you transfer your already translated content to the updated version of the file in Studio. It will basically pre-translate the new file with your previous file as a TM, so that the segments you have already translated will be translated in the new file, and only those segments will have to be translated which were updated or have not yet been translated.

If I understand correctly, you have already translated parts of your first document in Studio and then used the Update File option on it to replace it with the new updated version? How did you progress in your first file, how much content was translated in it? 
Might sound a basic question, but have you saved your first file before proceeding with the update?

Thank you for you answer. You understood correctly. And, if I am not mistaken, I understood the way it should work too.

The file was saved (the day before), but somehow it didn't seem that the translations were saved to the main TM.

I can't reproduce, but in the meantime I've been finishing the assignment. I luckily had a 'test file', a saved file from the first auto translated segments, the segments that were missing. With some tinkering, I managed to get a complete TM with almost all of those missing segments and the file at the time that had the later translations.

I can't recall that for sure, but that might have been the case. However, in the meantime I solved it with some tinkering and I have fortunately completed the assignment in time.

Same issue for us but not on that scale.

6/7 unchanged segments are not populated after using "Update File".

Any advice please?
