Hey, I'm unable to open an IDML file with the "Pre-Scanning failed to identify the file type" error that has been mentioned in several threads. However I already have the translate unsupported file versions option selected and also tried making a new file. I don't have InDesign myself so I'm unable to open the file separately.
What else can I try? Any help is appreciated since I'm under some time pressure with this.

Thanks for sending the file. I have replied to your email with my findings.
To summarize it here, the file looks suspicious, a 1 KB idml file seems way too small, this suggests that it was corrupted, either when it was exported from InDesign, or when it was sent to you. If you could get another version of this file (which is larger in size, at least a few MBs) it might just solve the issue.
