Thanks a lot for your reply.

Sorry if my question was not clear: yes, we are simply creating empty shell memories and then we populate with existing TMX files.

And then we upgrade it (as a seperate step). We were wondering if there is a simpler way to populate the Translation memory and upgrade it in one go (or as two sequential steps in one process, than doing the upgrade after realising that there is an orange mark in the newly populated translation memory).

...simply means that your TM's are ready to be upgraded in order to benefit from upLift functionality.

Please note however, depending on the size of the TM, this can take quite some time to process.

We do already upgrade the translation memories and yes it takes a lot of time.

Also, do you happen to know if the translation memory API has upgrading facilities? To do it programmatically?

... this is because the TM has to reach a minimum size before upLIFT functionality is available.

There are no automatic procedures for the upgrade functionality.

This is something I think that will remain a manual task as it is up to the user when they upgrade (or not) their TM's.

Many thanks for your reply. Its clearer for us now.  So there will be no automatic procedures probably.

Just a final question:

a) In which situations would this be UpLift functionality less useful? For example, we have translators who populate large translation memories, and translators who just create quite small tm s with quite small files. So my guess is that its beneficial for large tms?  And the effect is less apparent for smaller TMs?

b) Also, I do not see the upgrade functionality in Groupshare… is this because UpLift and upgrading will already be done?

Hello Jeevanthi Liyana Pathirana ,

Within the GS environment- upLift is automatic- you don't have the option of switching on or off (hence why you don't see this option).

With file based TM's (For Studio) this functionality is optional.

Studio will notify you (orange triangle) automatically once the TM reaches ca 1500 TU's.

The benefits are probably greater with larger TM's but you will benefit no matter what the size.
