Would upgrading to a SSD drive help?

I bought a crappy ASUS laptop with just 4 GB of RAM (it was all I could afford at the time). It really struggles with SDL studio, and you can hear the harddisk straining and making unpleasant noises while it hangs for ages. Eventually I would like to buy a laptop with far better specs, but that is a long way off right now. In the meantime, an upgrade to an SSD drive would be quite a cheap solution. Would it give me significantly better performance?

 Please take a look at the recommended system requirements-

 We would always recommend using an SSD drive where possible (significant gains in both speed and relaibility). 
 The sticking point however is, the lack of upgradeable RAM- 4GB is the absolute minimum which will struggle with large TM's/Files etc. as the RAM is also 'shared' with all the other applications you will have running on the machine.
