Termbase search does not work (SDL Trados Studio 2019 Freelance)

Hello,

I bought SDL Trados Studio 2017 Freelance last year, which is now updated to 2019.
I am unable to use termbase search with a termbase provided by a client. It's a large multilingual TB in .sdltb format. It's enabled in Project Settings, and I can view entries via Termbase Viewer, although scrolling down in Termbase Viewer and waiting for entries to load takes a long time. When I enter a term in Termbase Search window, I keep getting the message "No results available", even when I try the terms that are definitely in the TB.

What I tried so far:
I paused my antivirus software and did the repair installation of Studio. I tried to search the termbase with the antivirus still on pause. I also added all termbase file extensions (sdltf, mdf, mtf) from the folder with the TB as exceptions for the antivirus. None of the above helped.

  • Update.

I did miss one Studio update - there was a notification on Home page. I updated Studio today, and the search began to work, but it is not reliable. It does not find some of the terms, and sometimes the search kind of freezes - the message 'Searching for terms...' keeps being displayed. And the termbase still takes too much to load in Termbase Viewer.

  • Hi

I'll answer this as it's Saturday and I don't know if Steven works Saturdays.

In order to be able to use a termbase correctly in Studio 2019, you need to have both Studio 2019 and MultiTerm 2019 installed, and to have each of them them updated to the correct version for the other. Logically, this usually means having the latest version of each.

You can check whether you have the latest version by opening Studio, clicking on the Help tab, then on Check for Updates.

Likewise in MultiTerm. Open > Help tab > Check for Updates.

It is useful to have 'Always install updates' ticked in your File>Options settings. Then your software will automatically check for updates when you open the software and then update when a new software build comes out.

Also, if you don't open MultiTerm separately ever, it won't have updated to the latest version so you need to open it now and then to allow it to do so.

I hope this helps - if you need further help in achieving the above, don't hesitate to ask.

    All the best,
